Is it far better to have soft marimba mallets, or challenging marimba mallets?

Is it greater to have soft marimba mallets, or hard marimba mallets?
Im not positive, but i only want one pair, simply because, i dont know two mallets but, and, i though the innovative percussion series, was a great brand, and i wanted to get the soloist series from innovative percussion, but im not sure whether or not soft or tough, or medium is
